The Sonnet

One day, while I was writing a sonnet,

There was a man, quite strange, I chanced to meet.

“Magician I, “he said as I would greet,

“for runes and spells I have ‘nieth me bonnet,

for payment, I will write your poor sonnet.”

In his hands then appeared a blank white sheet,

With it he wrote a poem that rivaled Keats.

And better words could not be printed on it.

My brain yearned for a decent night of rest.

My question came, “What is the price or toll?”

A smile sneered his lips, he raised his chest,

“To get this you will need to sell your soul.”

My answer saw him vanish with great wrath—

“Last term I sold my soul for an ‘A’ in math.”

-Tom Dixon-

I'm sure you all remember, or have been told about Tom's Sonnet that he wrote in high school. Well, going through some things today I found this copy of it. I was reading it to Dad and he said we should put it on the blog. So Tom, I hope you don't mind, but I'm putting it on the blog for all to read! I still get a chuckle over it. Those Dixon kids are so clever!

Owen's 1st Birthday

We forgot to take pictures when Oma, Opa, Lilli, Emily, and Adam dropped by, but we had a lot of fun. Here are several pictures of Owen's first cake and ice cream. He loved the cake, was a little hesitant about the ice cream.

On another topic, it looks like all the girls can do May 16th for the shopping spree. The boys are welcome too... Peter is snickering. Anyway, we can meet at 1:00 at the Dixon home, and go to the Layton Hills Mall, or maybe Mom has another preference for a shopping center? I look forward to seeing you all!

Blog!

So I now have a blog. It's really nothing, but people seem to get upset when I don't tell them about it, so I'm telling you about it. Sarah's Blog! the address is
www.perkyhandmaiden.blogspot.com
come check it out if you want, if you don't it doesn't matter, just thought I'd let you know.
Xander at Law school graduation. If you look close you can see Elder Oaks head right behind Xander. Not too impressive I know. All the pictures I took of him were blurry.

A wagon full of cuteness!

Atmospheric Hijinx

http://www.wrh.noaa.gov/otx/photo_gallery/snow_rollers.php

On the evening of March 31st, 2009, Tim Tevebaugh was driving home from work east of Craigmont in the southern Idaho Panhandle (see map below). Across the rolling hay fields, Tim saw a very unusual phenomenon. The snow rollers that he took pictures of are extremely rare because of the unique combination of snow, wind, temperature and moisture needed to create them. They form with light but sticky snow and strong (but not too strong) winds. These snow rollers formed during the day as they weren't present in the morning on Tim's drive to work.

(Who did not want to try on the hat, but was cute anyway!)

Sarah and Lilli gave Jim this funny hat from Disneyland. We all had fun trying it on, but caught some on film. Xander did not want it on,no way! No dreadlocks for him! But we were able to sneak a picture of him really fast before he pulled it off. The rest of the kids posed for a picture with it on. Even Tom was a sport!

Lilli's Prom 2009

Lilli went to Prom last Saturday with Steven Timothy. They had a great time. For the day date they went lazer tagging. Then he took her to Tepinyaki's for dinner. Lilli said they both had a good time. He looks like a very nice guy.

My story called Little Edward

I hope you like it. It's title is Little Edward. (It's the story I wrote for the contest.)

One day, a curious boy was snooping around a private lab. After two and a half hours he stumbled across some unique gadget. On it there was a sign that ordered: Don’t touch the red button! But instead of obeying it, he did just the opposite. After he pushed the button, lights flashed, lighting bolts struck, and something buzzed. And then, everything went black.

When he woke up, he found himself in the hospital. Ten days later, he was released. When he got home, he saw the house was empty. Strange, he thought. Then, his eye caught something. It was a note and it said: Edward, we have been murdered. Love, your family.

Now, you’re probably concerned about what that gadget did, right? Well, one who pushes the button, is given a burden of misery, misfortune, and the entire thing that happened in Lemony Snicket’s Series of unfortunate events. And so, let us return to our story, which will have a 99.99% chance of misfortune. And so I will give you a warning, to read, or not to read. That is the question (See Hamlet, by Shakespeare).

And before you could sing the entire song of “Yankee Doodle,” something unusual happened. A flood of root beer came pushing its way to poor little Edward. He screamed, but nobody heard him. As the flood raged through town, the mayor tried to solve the problem and took immediate action. As the flood raged through town people put up sand bags to avoid the rest of the city getting flooded. And then, at 3:30 the flood was stopped. As a celebration, the had a swimming in root beer contest topped with a root beer drinking contest. Unfortunately, little Edward was not invited.

Little Edward, now homeless and an orphan, wandered near the pond. Thinking what he should do, he stumbled over a dead tree. Then Edward got a fabulous idea. So using his Swiss army knife, he slowly hollowed out the tree. And after 17 days, he officially called it home.

And so after so many days of misery, Edward found happiness, joy, peace, faith, and well, just love at his new homemade home. After a couple of days, Edward found a pet, which was a duck. And that cured his lonesomeness.

Well, I guess that I didn’t put as much of misfortune as I thought. I surely hope this story wins because of two reasons: 1. I wish that I could meet Brandon Mull in person. 2. My family just loves Mr. Mull’s books. Any way I am running out of words, so farewell whoever is reading this. Farewell…. Farewell….

( P. S., the number of words are 455. )

Lunch with Brandon Mull

I had something very exciting happen Thursday April 16th,2009. (You may be reading this some other year.) “What was it?” I think you will think. Any way it was … having lunch with Brandon Mull! And that must be exciting to book fans (like me). It turns out I sat in the seat next to Brandon Mull. And I asked him one question (other people who won took care of the rest) and that was: "What inspired you to write 'The Candy Shop War'?" And he answered first, the title came into his head. Then later on, he dug very deep in his memory until he found that in 5th grade, a candy shop (or shoppe) opened. And after lunch, we read our stories. He said mine was unique.

Brigham Waterfall & Bird Refuge

Steven thought we should hike to the waterfall Friday night. I wanted to go drive the bird refuge loop. So we did both.

The kids were well-behaved and very safe on our hike, even when the terrain got steep and a little scary.

Brigham Tabernacle

I keep telling Mary that I want to buy a ultra wide angle lens, so I figured that I'd better see if I can deal with the bending lines on the edges on the 18mm telephoto that I have.

It got reeeeal tricky to try to center the tabernacle.

What a nice spring day to take some pictures after conference!

CONFERENCE WEEKEND...............HURRAY!

http://farm1.static.flickr.com/145/367789925_f683ea5ffc.jpg

It's that time again. Time for conference and watching conference with each other.

For anyone who would like to come on Sunday, we will be having a burrito bar. So if you come for the morning session we will eat after the morning session. If you come for the afternoon session, we will eat just before the afternoon session. Or even better, you can stay for both and eat between the sessions!

Isn't this the best time of the year? I love conference time!!!
